The Year at a Glance
In First Grade the children will have about five, forty minute lessons a month in which all kinds of art will be experienced. There will be an opportunity in the Fall to purchase items from Original Works.
Everyone will also create a fabric art and ceramics project this year. |
Core Knowledge First Grade Program
Art lessons illustrate important elements of making and appreciating art, and emphasize important artists, works of art, and artistic concepts. Topics also often link to other disciplines.
The following guidelines specify a variety of artworks in different media and from various cultures. The program builds upon the core content and exposes children to a wide range of art and artists.
Art From Long Ago
Children learn to see how art has been an important human activity since early time.

Art from Ancient Egypt (Great Sphinx, mummy cases, Tutankhamen’s coffin, bust of Queen Nefertiti Cave Paintings
Elements of Art
Children continue to study the elements of art. (Line, shape, space, form, light, texture and color)
